as much as i have admonished my children against growing up and getting older, they continue to do it anyway. i miss their dimpled hands and big round cheeks and chiclet teeth and pudgy toes and wobbly walks and uninhibited dances. despite my threats, their limbs have elongated, their knuckle dimples have disappeared, their baby teeth have fallen out and they orange justice and hype, instead of hokey pokey. there ARE some benefits… they are potty trained, they can clean their own noses, they dress themselves and they can even fold their laundry and put it away (when threatened)… i HATE dealing with laundry.
so recently, they wanted to make their playroom (now “lounge”) more grown-up. after a brief, not-so-private cry, i agreed. we decided to replace all of the primary colored items (baskets, rug, bean bag) with graphic black and white or grey pieces. we also swapped out their baby play table with an adult-sized desk and chairs. i will say, my children are the WORST clients. i put together a whole presentation for them, complete with fabric swatches and photos and before i could even begin my spiel one declared, “no way to that chair” and the other said while shrugging, “i really hate that rug… i REALLY do.” with my regular clients (that i haven’t given birth to) i try to be very polite, but with these two i had to stomp away and swear a little bit. in the end, we all came to agreement and are super happy with the result. they are actually spending time in that room again and it was a well priced update… although i am still waiting for them to pay their invoice… i may have to collect it in public kisses, which are hard to come by these days.
