(these sconces were hung down all the hallways of our hotel: inn on the alameda)
five years ago, when my daughter was turning ten, we were supposed to take a girls’ trip with my mother to santa fe. that plan got kabashed with the pandemic and this spring break we were finally able to make it happen. i have never before been to a place so concentrated with art museums and galleries and beautiful shops in such a small geographic footprint. it was absolutely exhilirating to be exposed (inundated?) to so many pretty, innovative, inspiring, engaging works of art literally EVERYWHERE we went. and the food was outrageous too… so YUMMY! here are some of my favorite discoveries…
(the exterior of our hotel - red chilies were hung like a tapestry above a balcony)
(this lady and her friends were installed in a park across the street from our hotel)
(she was smart to throw on an extra scarf… it was COLD out!)
(look at this beautiful bench on museum hill!)
(even the seat at the bus stop is thoughtful and carved from local stone)
(lovely exterior wall tile from a shop on the plaza)
(outdoor sculptures on canyon road, the fancy gallery street)
(i LOVE them in teal too!)
(this stunning, graphic, geometric painting by david naranjo)
(delightful little birds on a stone by sculptor, gilberto romero - i realized that i love depictions of birds, but i am kind of afraid of live ones!)
(of course, i love COLOR! the base of this painting by peter stephens is paint swatch cards!)
(i was so thrilled to learn that this incredible resin piece is by a BAY AREA artist, lola!)
(this wonderful scene by mark mulhern feels like a modern day renoir!)
(i always have a soft spot for bunnies… these guys by hunt slonem are so much fun!
(i found this sculpture by dylan martinez hilarious - that’s an actual goldfish cracker in there! i am still packing little tuppers of goldfish in my daughter’s lunch… did it this morning!)
(also funny, but more low brow - naughty sculptures tucked in with the expected quartz in a gift shop)
(they came in lots of colors!)
my very FAVORITE shop was cielo hand crafted on canyon road! everthing in there was exquisite!
i WISH i had been better about photographing the food we ate, but i kept diving in as soon as it got to the table…
DELICIOUS lunch at pasqual’s just off the plaza, where we met one of my childhood friends who has lived in albuquerque forever! x0x
this chocolate shop: kakawa was incredible! (my girlfriend took us there after lunch!)
tomasita’s for a classic santa fe dinner - i had sopaipillos for the first time and i was in heaven!
paper dosa was a really charming, YUMMY indian restaurant! i have never heard of mung beans but they were in our salad and it was so good!
we had tapas the last night at la boca and i can’t wait to go back! x0x0xx
