in addition to stuffing and cranberries and baking pies, thanksgiving is, of course, a time of gratitude. 2025 has been pretty tumultuous for me with the loss of my darling father (and how BANANAS our whole world has become!) but on this holiday, i am intensely GRATEFUL that my father was in my life for fifty-six years. i know that many people don’t get that kind of time with their parents and it was truly a gift.
i am grateful that he is safe and happy now, released from his parkinson’s and lewy body dementia. i am sure he is golfing and eating pecan pie and popcorn (“popcorn is PRECIOUS!”), zipping around in his spider (there are probably no speed limits up there), losing his keys and making mischief. i know that he’s reunited with my spicy grandma, who LOVES him so, as well as his beloved greta dog. he probably wasted no time introducing himself to his heroes: einstein and shubert and dickens… regaling them with his exploits and ours (which MAY be a little exaggerated) having fantastic conversations and sharing treats they might not yet have tried: salted chocolate, ginger beer, pom juice… and ever protective, he is definitely watching over us. THANK YOU dad for filling my heart with so many wonderful memories and teachings. THANK YOU for loving us so thoroughly and deeply. THANK YOU for the mishaps and hilarity and all of the airport hotdogs that kept us safe from plane crashes. i love you higher than the sky is high and deeper than the ocean is deep! x0x0xx
