this is one of those years that passover and easter were right on top of each other, which can be exhausting for the mama in a family that celebrates everything. we made the decision not to host a big seder like we usually do… partly because the big kid couldn’t come home from college and partly because the littler kid and i were going to be in the mountains until the evening before the seder and it’s too hard to pull together with so little time. so we ordered in a lot of the meal from saul’s and i really only made the seder plate and the charoset. i was worried that it would feel sad, but it was actually super calm and easy. we all fit at the round table and we facetimed theo in. i am still getting used to celebrating some things without him. he wasn’t here for either valentine’s day or st. patrick’s… although i heard that both cupid and the leprechauns found him in new orleans.
(our baby seder)
i must have brought a flu or a terrible cold home with me from tahoe because after the seder i was FLAT for three days. (i was so grateful for the leftover matzo ball soup!) it was a bit ironic that i finally rose up on easter and had enough energy to go to the market for brunch ingredients. (my christian historical knowledge is NOT tip top, but i do remember that jesus rose up after three days too and i THINK it happened on easter… i have only been to church a handful of times with my grandparents and i have a clear memory of my grandma singing a hymn with the lyrics, “HE AROSE! HE AROSE! HE AROSE!” in her very high soprano. of course, i am definitely not equating myself with jesus [like our current president] but it was an interesting coincidence.) i WAS still pretty brain fogged though so even though i had a list and there were only six things on it, i forgot to get cream cheese for the easter buns. i DID have whipped cream cheese at home, but it made the filling in the buns kind of soupy and they were absolutely the ugliest buns i have ever baked. they DID still taste good! i hope you had lovely celebrations too. x0x0x
(our baby easter… with some leftover passover! i used matzo crackers in the quiche crust, instead of saltines! and then i kind of burned the quiche - i wasn’t really at my best!)
(the whipped cream cheese was slipping out EVERYWHERE!)
(and the buns just got uglier after baking… NONE of the jam stayed on top!)
